Symbolism

Red, white and blue are the colors traditionally used by the U. S. Coast Guard.  The compass rose, highlighting the far-reaching scope of the organization's operations and effects, and the torch, for leadership and training, together symbolize guidance, management, and the mission of the U.S. Coast Guard Human Resources for the people it serves. The torch passes through and links the interlaced annulets, underscoring the three areas of commitment and interaction echoed by the motto "MANAGE DEVELOP SUPPORT". Laurel is for honor and achievement.  The Coast Guard shield reflects the organization's focus and dedication to the U.S. Coast Guard service members and civilian personnel.
